What this case demonstrates

The marketplace combined vehicle listings, new arrivals, make and model pages, comparisons, and finance information. Weak structure, thin pages, and inconsistent internal links made it difficult for search engines to discover and prioritise the useful parts of the inventory.

The restructuring and validation work was completed across an approximately three-month engagement.

The business constraint

The marketplace had many URLs but weak routes to the right pages.

Automotive marketplaces naturally generate combinations of inventory, make, model, comparison, and finance pages. Without rules, that scale creates thin pages, crawl waste, orphaned URLs, duplicate intent, and unstable indexation.

The work needed to identify which page types deserved indexation, strengthen their unique value, and create programmatic pathways that helped both users and crawlers move through the inventory.

What changed

The work was designed as one connected system.

01

Restructure page relationships

Clarified the hierarchy across cars, brands, comparisons, arrivals, and finance-related pages.

02

Create programmatic internal links

Built rules that connected related vehicles and page types while prioritising crawlable, commercially useful destinations.

03

Standardise page signals

Improved repeatable title, description, and schema logic for large template families.

04

Strengthen thin pages

Added useful descriptions and context where inventory templates did not provide enough unique information.

The measured outcome

Valid indexed coverage increased to 306,000 URLs.

The Search Console Coverage evidence records 144,834 valid URLs at baseline and 306,000 valid URLs in the later measurement, an increase of 111.2%.

Indexation is not automatically a business result: more URLs are useful only when the pages are intentional, valuable, and connected to demand. The case study demonstrates that the technical system became capable of discovering and retaining a much larger useful inventory.

The next measurement layer was organic traffic and ranking performance for the approved inventory. That meant grouping keywords by vehicle, make, model, comparison, and finance intent, then checking whether the site earned results for the content people actually needed. This kept the SEO growth objective grounded: increase valid coverage first, then verify that improved discovery produces organic visits and commercially useful traffic.

For marketing leaders and founders

What another team can take from this work.

01

Define the indexable product

A marketplace should decide which URL patterns create a genuinely useful search destination.

02

Make internal linking programmable

Manual links cannot govern hundreds of thousands of marketplace pages.

03

Validate value, not only count

Coverage growth needs follow-up checks for impressions, clicks, conversion, duplication, and crawl demand.
